FCHS Students Excel in AP Classes (2016)

Rebel's Corner

Every year during the first two weeks of May, students around the world are administered Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. Students enroll in AP classes for three primary reasons: (1) to build confidence in their abilities to meet the academic challenges of college; (2) to increase college success rate as studies show students who succeed in AP classes typically experience greater success in college than similar students who do not participate in AP classes; and (3) to earn college credit while in high school which allows them more options in college (advanced courses, study abroad, graduating early).

Fannin County High School (FCHS) administered 151 exams to 104 students during the testing window. Results from these exams arrived in July and FCHS students performed well. The overall pass rate for FCHS was 57% while the Georgia Pass Rate was 58% and the Global Pass Rate was 60%. The pass rate is determined by the number of students receiving a score of 3 or better on their exams with scores ranging from 1 to 5.
CollegeBoard oversees the AP Program and annually recognizes students who have taken multiple AP courses and excelled throughout their high school careers.

AP Scholar status is awarded to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. FCHS AP Scholars are: Bryce Aring, Zachary Cox, Kaelyn Deal, Uriah Giet, Daniel Kinser, Amberly Postell, Michael Turpin, Isabel Wanner, and Jean Zamora.

AP Scholar With Honor status is awarded to students who receive an average score of 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. FCHS AP Scholars With Honor are: Jordan Landress, Edith Mares, and Ryan Moore.

AP Scholar With Distinction status is awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. FCHS AP Scholars With Distinction are: William Baldwin, Colton Carpenter, Alexander Chastain, Carly Hellerstedt, and Charitty Tuttle.

FCHS Principal, Erik Cioffi, stats how proud he is of the students, staff and community for their commitment to the AP Program. “Everyone benefits from a strong and successful program. AP courses are college level courses and are challenging for students. Our goal is to continue to provide FCHS students with rigorous courses and prepare them for college.”
