Mr. Raymond “Ray” Marion Haren: Obituary

Raymond “Ray” Marion Haren, age 80, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at his home Palmetto surrounded by family. He was born November 15, 1935 in Epworth, GA to the late John and Nora Haren.

Ray owned his own business for 40 years, doing both construction and paving. He was around racing his entire life, so much so he was one of the founding members of NASCAR. He built and ran Rebel Speedway Go-Kart in the 80’s and 90’s which launched several professional racing careers. Racing was one of many things Ray enjoyed in life but what he always made sure came first was family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Joyce Ann Haren, son Michael Haren, daughter Joanie Clepper and son-in-law Mark Clepper. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Zackery Clepper, Rachel Roye, John Michael Haren and Charles Garner and sister Virginia Phillips and her husband James. Along with a list of nieces and nephews Ray will be missed by many close family and friends.

The funeral service is Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 2 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Pastor Sollie Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Flowers are welcome and condolences can be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
