Mr. Grover Higdon, Jr, age 76 of Ducktown, TN passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Erlanger Medical Center. Mr. Higdon was born in Jefferson City, TN to the late Grover and Bessie Chastain Higdon. He retired from the Tennessee Copper Company where he worked as a miner and in maintenance. He was a member of the Mine City Baptist Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Ducktown Masonic Lodge #241 F & AM.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Stillwell Higdon of the home; sons, Ken (Sandy) Higdon of Old Fort, TN, Bill Higdon of Ellijay, GA; daughter, Julie (Rob) Gibson of Copperhill, TN; brother, Tony Higdon of Ft. Walton, FL.; sister, Juanita (Dock, Jr) Hensley of Copperhill, TN; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 11th at 2:00 PM from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Music will be by the Mine City Trio. Pallbearers include Dale Sesher, Hal Ransom, Derrick Mosley, Dwight Dilbeck, Richard Henson, Alan Henson, Luke Dillard and Grady Patterson. The gentlemen of Mine City Baptist Church will serve as an honorary escort. Interment will follow in the Chastain cemetery with Doug Dilbeck officiating the grave side service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
