Mr. Donald Clifton Cook, better known as “Don”, passed away on June 26, 2016. Born in Copperhill, TN, he was the son of the late L.C. and Kay Harper Cook. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Don retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as an Engineer after many years of service. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and enjoyed Bee Keeping. Spending time with his grandchildren was very special to Don as well. His brother, Denny Cook also precedes him in death.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Nancy Cook of Talking Rock, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Valecia “Sissy” and Joe Farist of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren, Shelby and Josh Cook, Carson Carder and Caden Farist; brother and sister-in-law, James and Edie Cook of Morganton, GA; niece, Haley Cook; and several cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Gerald Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in the Hemptown Cemetery with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Roger Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Tim McDaris, Chad Mason, Patrick Fix, Brad Hooper, and Demetrius Wilson will serve as pallbearers. The following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers: Bob Thomas, Tom Hooper, Bart Hooper, James Millholland, Danny Foster, and Todd Dilbeck. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-9 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
