Mr. George Truett Anderson: Obituary

Mr. George Truett Anderson, age 88 of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016. He was born on August 31, 1927 in Culberson, NC to the late Alonzo Milton Anderson and Addie Garland Anderson.

He served his country faithfully for three years in the United States Navy during World War II and twenty years in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict. After his military retirement in 1968 he and his family returned home to the mountains of Blue Ridge, GA where he became a businessman owning Anderson Ford, Inc. from 1973 until 1993 and Anderson Moving and Storage. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Elbert Anderson and Willard Anderson; sisters, Myrtle Anderson, Nora Anderson, Gertie Shields and Marie Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Geneva Arp Anderson of the home; one brother, Mr. Emory Anderson of Murphy, NC two daughters, Carolyn Pettyjohn of Marietta and Cheryl (Doug) Cheek of Mineral Bluff, GA; three grandchildren, Rachel Vaughn (Patrick) of Dallas, GA, Ryan Cheek of Mineral Bluff, GA and Todd Cheek of Mineral Bluff, GA; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Vaughn of Dallas, GA and Cole Vaughn of Dallas, GA; two nephews, Randal Sheilds of Murphy, NC and Gary Anderson of Murphy, NC; one niece Diana Hogan of Chatsworth, GA. Mr. Anderson was anticipating the birth of his great-grandson, Anderson John Cheek in June.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday evening, April 3, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. Steve Ware and Rev. Donald Padgett officiating. Music was by Larry Cheek, Peyton O’Neal and Russell O’Neal. Pallbearers were Ryan Cheek, Todd Cheek, Russell Anderson, Patrick Vaughn, Larry Cheek and Tommy Cheek. Honorary Pallbearers were Don Curtis, Gary Anderson, Randal Shields, Tommy Hogan, Arthur Garland, Lewis Simonds, Eddie Stanley and Derek Cheek. Interment will follow on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. from the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 4:00 until the funeral hour of 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers make donations to Shady Grove Cemetery Fund, C/O Lois Menasiam, 6 Deweese St., Murphy, NC 28906.
