West Fannin Elementary Third Graders Learn about Fossils

Third grade students at West Fannin Elementary received a visit from Jayne Brechbill, also known as the Fossil Lady.  She brought her collection of fossils and allowed students to see, hold and touch the fossils.  Some of her samples are as old as 3.4 billion years.

Students enjoyed studying the fossils.  Some of the favorites were the trilobites, woolly mammoth tooth, and a fossilized egg of a dinosaur.  Jayne is a member of the Education Committee at The Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center in Blairsville, Georgia.

The GMRE Center would like to express its appreciation to WFES teacher Michelle Grubb for coordinating this science opportunity for the school. A special thanks is also extended to Principal Robert Ensley and the 3rd grade teachers.
