Mountain Education Charter High School Mentor-Parent Night, February 23, 2016

Parent-Mentor-Night
Mountain Education Charter High School is proud of its mentor program headed by Team Coordinator  Pam Garrett. Mentors meet with individual students weekly to assess their progress and be proactive about  their academic goals and postsecondary options. In addition, mentors call student’s parents monthly to let  them know their progress. There are nine mentors who track over 100 MEC students. Last Tuesday,  February 23, the mentors tried something new. To increase communication between families, school and  students, all parents were invited to an open house to meet with their child and their mentor. Mentors were  ready with attendance information and grade sheets. Refreshments were served. By meeting with the  parents and students, the mentors facilitated an academic discussion about student progress and future  plans. MEC was pleased with the parent turnout at this first event and plan on making this an annual event.

Mountain Education Visits NGTC Cosmetology Program, February 24, 2016

NGTC-Cosmetology-2016

As part of their ongoing career awareness program at Mountain Education Charter High School (MEC), students  visited the cosmetology program at North Georgia Technical College(NGTC) in Blairsville February 22.
Students were given an overview of the program and were able to sample some of the services NGTC has to offer.  Each MEC student selected a service such as haircut and style, manicure, pedicure or even a paraffin hand dip  and a cosmetology student would then demonstrate their knowledge on that student. The MEC students were  able to see career skills in action at NGTC and learn firsthand the benefits of becoming a cosmetologist and the  difference they can make in people’s lives.
