After the war Kay worked at the hosiery mill in Blue Ridge and was also a substitute teacher in Fannin County for many years. Kay was the oldest member of Hemptown Baptist Church where she attended until her hearing began failing and could no longer hear the message. She loved to read and crochet. Mrs. Cook took great pleasure in her backyard sanctuary where she loved bird watching and feeding her song birds and deer. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and was definitely a hard worker. Just last summer Kay was able to can 40 quarts of beans and put up countless ears of corn.
