Betty Jean Cornett, age 81, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in the Pruitt Health Care Center of Blue Ridge, GA. Mrs. Cornett was born on March 25, 1934 in Dawson County, GA to the late Claude Newton Chester and Mamie Black Chester. She worked at Weaver’s Variety in Blue Ridge as a Sales Manager. She had been a member of Blue Ridge Church of Christ since 1965. Mrs. Cornett was also active in many civic organizations including Blue Ridge Homemakers since 1970 and Volunteer Heritage Heritage Healthcare since 1970. She was preceded preceded in death by her husband Wallace “Sock” Cornett.
Mrs. Cornett is survived by two brothers, Doyle Chester of Jasper, GA and Ronnie Chester of Ellijay, GA; sister Alene Blakenship of Canton, GA; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Min. Lonnie Jones officiating. Music will be led by Bob Pugh and Donnie Gilliam. Pallbearers will be the Jamie Elliott, Scott Blakenship, Danny Chester, Tim McFarland, Junior Cornett, and James. Taylor. Interment will follow in Chastain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
