Mrs. Melissa Lynn Norton Cordell, age 41, of Murphy, NC passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She was born on August 2, 1974 in Polk County, TN. Melissa worked at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store as a cashier and attended Bethany Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stacy Dunn.

She is survived by her husband, Timmy Cordell of Murphy, NC; children, Isaiah Cordell, Caleb Hughes, Molly Cordell and Heather Cordell all of Murphy, NC; mother and step-father, Denise Hedden Waters and Herman “Ducie” Waters of Murphy, NC; father and step-mother, Harrison Norton and Bangel Norton of Blue Ridge, GA; brother, Billy Norton of Only, TN; sister, Sonja Godsey of Murphy, NC; mother-in-law, Naomi (Glen) Setser of Blue Ridge, GA also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 2, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dickey and Rev. Kevin Chapman officiating. Music will be by Sarah Kate Odom, Ivie Chapman and Mary Kate Chapman. Interment will follow in the Patterson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Hedden, Tracy Jordan, Craig Hendrix, Ray LeGendre, Isaiah Newman and Riley Hedden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Godsey and Lonnie Moore.
