The Fannin County Board of Commissioners called in their Department Heads for the  regular meeting on Tuesday, September 22, to follow a new plan to allow more information to go directly to it’s citizens.

In the September 22nd meeting, the Board awarded a bid to The Cool Roofing Company of Georgia, Inc.  for the project of the Jail roof, they came in with a $92,931 bid for 21,500 sq ft. and a 20 year parts and labor warranty. Though initially this bid seemed higher than the other, it registers at $4.31 per sq ft. and is also set to roof the bridge between the jail and the courthouse, a welcome addition to the project according to the citizens who spoke with FYN.

The second bid on the agenda was for propane. A bid which was ultimately given to both bids that were received as the Commissioners opted to simply continue their current service with Heritage Propane, who bid at 96 cents per gallon, and Freeman Gas, who bid at 97 cents per gallon. The Board stated intentions to use the savings from this to potentially buy their own propane tanks next year. This would also allow more propane services, including some local bidders, to bid competitively on this contract.

Also approved in the meeting were two variance requests. One was approved for Johnny Q. Pittman and Jerry B. Hensley Partnership which was tabled from the last meeting. Post Commissioners Earl Johnson and Larry Joe Sosebee both agreed they were only accepting the variance, asking to encroach closer than allowed to the road, due to the fact that it is just a deck and not a full structure. The other variance request, for Jennifer Lynn Bloom, was tabled due to the Commissioners just receiving the request and having no time to study or analyze it.

The Commissioners received praise and thanks for adding the Department Heads Monthly Report to the meeting during public comments. The Commissioners themselves also agreed, during their comments portion, that the Department Heads Report was not only a great asset, but a large step forward in providing information and transparency for the citizens of Fannin County.
