Local FFA Officers Attend Training Conference

COVINGTON, GA – The officers of the Fannin County High School FFA Chapter were part of the more than 250 chapter officers representing thirty-nine FFA chapters from across Georgia that attended one of two sessions of the 2015 Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference (COLT).

The two sessions of COLT were held at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center near Covington, Blue COLT on July 13-15 and Gold COLT on July 15-17. This year’s COLT theme was “Commit to the Corduroy.” Chapter officers were challenged to create a set of standards for their team and write down goals for the year. Participants attended workshops that focused on professionalism, service, commitment, sharing the message, recruitment and teamwork. The students also began planning their chapter’s Program of Activities for the coming year and learned strategies for time management, creativity and communication.  Officers were encouraged to make an impact in their school and community and gained ideas for member involvement, fundraising, and promoting the FFA.

“COLT Conference is an excellent way for chapter officers to kick-off their year of service,” says State FFA President, Avery Duncan. “It’s amazing to watch the officers develop skills and form friendships that will last a lifetime. We challenge these officers to work together and empower the other members of their chapter.”

The officers from the Fannin County High School  FFA chapter who attended COLT were: Seth Davis, Trey Campbell, Lakota Towe, Daniel Davis, Taylor VanZandt, Corey Stillwell, Tayelor Long, Adriana Smith, and Evan Asbury

The Georgia FFA Association is the third largest state association in the nation with more than 38,000 members. The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, changed its name in 1988 to reflect the growth and diversity of agriculture. The mission of the FFA organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
