Daily Prayer: 07/06

Proverbs 3:11-12. “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” O Lord, our Lord, how gracious are your actions toward us. You treat us like your children. You discipline us not to punish us for wrongdoing, but to teach us the lessons that are essential for balance and a good life. Your reproof is performed in love that delights in seeing us conform to the character that you desire us to possess.

Forgive us for kicking against your ways of discipline and interpreting life events that are difficult as your way of getting even with us when we ascribe to you methods that we would not use with our children. Forgive us for seeing the tyrannical in our hardships as your discipline when we have brought these things upon ourselves.

Teach us how to see and interpret your discipline in our lives. Help us to be so trusting that as a child believes that his father will do him no harm, we will be convinced that your bountiful love will envelop us in your grace through Christ, our Savior.

Amen
