Laura Martin Abernathy: Obituary

Laura Martin Abernathy, 85, of Epworth, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015. She was born in Toledo Ohio to Orlando and Essie Martin. Laura was an avid gardener and loved to be outdoors. She traveled all over the world, including Japan, Israel, Switzerland, and Australia. Laura taught school at Epworth Elementary until her retirement in 1988.

She was preceded by her husband, Carl Edd Abernathy.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Helton, son-in-law Mike, her son George, daughter-in-law Sonja, son William, daughter-in-law Lisa, daughter Mary Beth Stager, son-in-law Tom, grand daughter Sarah Kendall, grandsons Brandon Helton, Chris Abernathy, Scott Abernathy, great grand children Kayleigh Ann and Tristian. Surviving siblings Opal Martin Corbin and her husband Charles brother Malcolm Martin (sister in law Emily Martin recently deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services Wednesday, April 15, 2015 3:00 PM from Epworth First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music by Doug Simonds.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers, Christopher Abernathy, Scott Abernathy, Brandon Helton, Kenneth Martin, Tom Stager and Dale Corbin.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 6 till 9PM at Finch Cochran Funeral Home.
