Mr. Jewell “J.D.” Dean Shields: Obituary

Mr. Jewell Dean, better known as “J.D.” Shields, age 71, of Morganton, GA passed away on February 22, 2015. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Sweet Gum Lodge #542 F&AM, a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Shrine. J.D. was the owner and operator of the Polaris Surveying Company.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Shields; children, Teresa (Paul) Shields Ledford, Tracy (Paul) Shields Beaster, Terry (Kathleen) Shields, Travis (Abby) Shields, Sharon Auberry and Shonda Auberry; brother, Calvin Shields; sister, Emma Kate Ware; grandchildren, Michael Paul Ledford, Tasha Ledford Black, Sara Beaster, Emily Beaster, Lily Beaster, Zane Beaster, Katie Perkins, Patrick Shields, Shelby Shields, McKenzie Shields, Shayne Wilson, Seth Owens and Dakota McCoy; great grandchildren, Jackson Black, Zack Perkins, Amy Perkins, Koda McCoy and Anica Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Ware officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of the arrangements.
