Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” Dear Father, Your word teaches us that we are to take great care with our character. If we are known as Your children we must demonstrate that Your grace has done its work in our lives. Remind us that it takes a long time to build a good name and that it can be destroyed in a moment. We want to prize what You have worked in our hearts more than the pursuit after the temporal power of riches.
We often hear of people who sell their name for a mess of pottage and lose the respect of their own children. Help us to realize that the respect of our spouses, children, friends, and associates is far more important than the dollars that slip through our hands.
May this day find us with the accents of life in the right places. We pray this through our Lord Jesus Christ who taught us how important we are to Him.
Amen.
