Fannin County School District has an ongoing investigation by the Sheriff’s office into reports of a teacher, Amy Garton, engaging in improper contact with one or more students. FYN has inquired on the status and has received the following statement.
Mr. Henson has issued the following statement regarding the Garton issue:
The Fannin County School District recently became aware of allegations that a teacher, Amy Garton, may have engaged in unprofessional contact with a student and that an investigation was being conducted by law enforcement. Before any investigation was completed or potential termination proceedings were begun, Ms. Garton submitted her resignation from employment, which was accepted by the Board of Education at its meeting on February 12, 2015. The District is forwarding the matter to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for investigation and possible action against Ms. Garton’s teaching certificate if it determines any ethical violations occurred.
FetchYourNews will follow this investigation and will have more information as it becomes available. Names of any students were not released.
