Last Thursday the Blue Ridge City Council held a special called meeting. The meeting was called by Council Members, Bruce Pack and Rodney Kendall for the purpose of discussing topics that were tabled from the January 13, 2015 meeting and to discuss topics that need to be addressed. The main topics however would end up being the park and parking.
Blue Ridge can expect some major changes in the near future as the Council agreed last Thursday to proceed making plans for a parking deck to be built close to City Hall.
Council Woman Rhonda Thomas motioned to allow the following; 1.)A Survey, 2.) A Floor Elevation of City Hall, 3.) An exact Location of City Hall on a survey and 4.) all the proper soil samples to be taken to make sure the parking deck could be constructed.
Mayor Whitener would go on to say,
“I think we can do both (parking deck/lot and paving of Main Street) before the years out.”
Whitener mentioned that a parking area is needed greatly for when the paving of Main Street occurs, and suggested that the lot by City Hall would be ideal. The Council feels and is hoping to have the paving done by August 2015.
During the meeting the council went into a long executive session where they discussed the park. Once out of the session Kendall made the motion to hire Timothy Towe to become Assistant Supervisor of the City Park. Towe will be living in the park and will receive a weekly salary.
Also discussed but tabled was the idea and soon to come new concrete to be poured around the city pool.
