Lidia Shaw: Obituary

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces memorial services for Lidia Morgado Shaw of Hiawassee who passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.
Lidia was born on May 17, 1932 in Vina Del Mar, Chili. Lidia met and later married a young Naval Chief Petty Officer, Jack Shaw, while he was stationed in Chili. As a Navy wife, she traveled and supported him during his career and upon his retirement, they moved to Georgia from Rhode Island. They came to know and love Hiawassee as their home. Lidia and Jack had entrepreneurial spirits that held a perfect balance of each others strengths and weaknesses. Together, they invested in real estate, as well as owned and operated several successful business ventures including Hiawassee Restaurant in the mid 70’s, and Shaw Appraisal Services in the 80’s. They both loved animals and were instrumental in helping to found the Humane Society’s Mountain Shelter. Lidia & Jack were also involved as Board members & volunteers for S.A.F.E., the local women’s shelter, where many women & their children received uplifting & caring words of encouragement. Lidia was a true champion of the broken of heart and spirit.

Lita (to her friends), loved art, nature, flowers, socializing and talking politics. She enjoyed golf and was a member of Chatuge Shores Golf Course. She “adopted” and mentored many young people throughout her lifetime. Always happy to give advice and offer helpful tips on a variety of topics. She made lots of friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gaylord Shaw, and survived by her sister, a number of nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Humane Society Mountain Shelter, P.O. Box 1252, Blairsville, GA 30514.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory.
