Stepp Participates in State FFA Floral Design Career Development Event

Fannin County High School FFA member Daisy Stepp recently competed in the State FFA Floral Design Career Development Event. The event was held at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton on Saturday, December 6th. Stepp, a freshman at FCHS and Rhonda Mathews is the FCHS FFA advisor.The Floral Design Career Development Event allows students to utilize the principles and elements of design. In the junior design competition each student makes two floral arrangements based on the scenario given. In the senior design competition the student creates two designs based on scenarios given to them, completes a 25 question basic knowledge test and identifies 25 products and hard goods. Students use the principles of balance, proportion and scale, focal point, emphasis, rhythm, harmony and unity, and the technique of flower placement to create their designs. The designs are then evaluated by a panel of certified florists. The junior design competition consists of two student created designs based on specific scenarios which are then evaluated by our certified Georgia State Florist Association judges. Daisy placed 2nd in the area competition which qualified her for the state CDE, she finished 9th in the state competition. The Floral Design Career Development Event is sponsored by the Georgia State Florist Association.
