The First Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3.O Mighty God, we acknowledge you as our creator and Heavenly Father. Before your throne we bow to renew our allegiance to you. We believe you are the only true God and that other gods that men worship are powerless to touch their lives. We know that you are alive because we feel your marvelous presence, and we have seen the wondrous work of your Omnipotent hand. Ever present are gods that try to claim our worship. Forbid that we should ever bow to the gods of money, materialism, or immorality.
We pray today for those who are bowing at the alters of these gods in search of peace. When they come to the realization that these cannot satisfy, may they come to your Holy Presence where the deepest longings of human spirit are satisfied.
O God, grant this person who seeks you now the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the heart to feel that the place of quiet rest is near to the heart of God in Christ.
Amen.
