Mr. Robert Don Carter, age 74 of McCaysville, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.Don was born August 17, 1940 in McCaysville, GA to the late Young Carter and the late Ruth Hughes Carter. He was a member of First Baptist Church McCaysville Copperhill. A twelve year veteran and first class deep sea diver with the US Navy serving in Vietnam, two time Past Master of McCaysville Masonic Lodge and former McCaysville city council member. He loved gardening working outside, sail boating and traveling. Don had recently been inducted in the Fannin Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include: wife, Gilita Chapman Carter, sons, Barry Carter, Eric Carter, beloved dogs, Maks and Bear, cat, Snow Donnette, brother, William Carter, sister, Loretta Henry, brother, Rickey Carter, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services: Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church McCaysville with the Rev. Mathew McDaniel officiating. Music provided by Ed Vest, Harry Gilbert and the First Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
