New Senator’s…

Opinion by George McClellan:Well, Johnny Isakson, Georgia’s remaining beloved US Senator, with two years still to serve on his second term, has already announced his intention to stand for yet a third term as Georgia’s senior senator so he can presumably continue to pursue his important task of adding to our national deficit with his votes for more and more spending. How about that?

Once, two senators each represented the states from which they originated. That was changed with enactment of the 17th amendment in 1912 and ratified in 1913 which made direct election of senators a popularity contest for voters, no longer a sole function to serve the needs of their state government(s). States apparently have no direct voice in the halls of congress unless they should apply the 10th amendment and the last time that was tried, the unpleasantness that arose between the states was the unhappy result.

I would bet even money that Senator Isakson agrees with current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who, after this past election fiasco said: “they (the voters) want us to work together. I look forward to working with Senator McConnell to get things done for the middle class.” Well, if he does he’s wrong because actually, no, the voters don’t want them to work together! America can’t afford it any longer.

This November 4th we voted Republicans into office exactly because we expect them to neutralize or marginalize if not actually eliminate the Marxist Democrat party, not go along with them in their tireless pursuit to socialize America. It would be a grave mistake if the GOP took Harry’s advice for continued cooperation with the Constitution destroying Democrat Party which, brings us to our remaining Old Guard politician, Senator Johnny Isakson. I cannot see him in a third term. It offends my sensibilities for wanting quality over seniority in my Senator.

A review of Johnny’s senatorial voting record does not engender much hope for seeing him turn to real, not faux, conservatism during these last two years of his second term. His history speaks, go along to get along which means he will doubtless still vote how he’s told to by the RiNO leadership. Changes will be slow in coming but come they will. The democrats, of course, will loudly insist that Republicans adopt elements of their progressive agenda whose programs clearly do not serve middle income voters, but to serve the ‘state’ instead. The voters clearly understand the dangers even if the Democrats do not.

As a reminder, Senator Isakson, in his wisdom, voted for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Who could be against funding for our armed forces? However, his vote also gave our alleged president, and his Secretary of DHS, the authority, without due process, to imprison anybody they deem a possible terrorist threat just on their hunch alone. How can that be good for America’s if he points his boney finger at Tea Party groups, Oath Keepers, Patriot Riders and, even veterans. We know Obama doesn’t like rubes who “cling to their guns and bibles.”

I have yet to hear Senator Isakson explain why he didn’t read that bill before he voted for it or, if he did read it and agreed with the intent of the wording, why? How can Georgians feel safer under his thought process translated into votes for bills that contravene the safeguards provided in our constitution? Ditto with the Patriot Act, a near total invasion of our constitutional rights.

Georgia has some quality folks who would make a good replacement for Johnny. Karen Handle should consider giving it another go. So should Herman Cain and even Paul Broun. We still have two more years! Remember freedom is the goal the Constitution is the way. Now, go get ‘em! (20 Nov 2014)
