Teen Maze Challenges 9th Grade Fannin High Students

Blue Ridge, Ga – For the second year in a row, on October 16th , the Teen Maze
Challenge made it’s way to Blue Ridge to make the students of Fannin County High
School aware of more than 20 different adversities they could face, such as STD’s,
alcohol/drug rehab, and jail time, all resulting from poor choices.Teen Maze began 10 years ago in Crisp County, Georgia in hopes of deterring the
rapid increase in the percentage of teen pregnancy and drug use. For five years
the program was monitored by various groups to see if the implementation of the
program was making a difference in the behaviors of the teenagers and, thankfully,
there was a change for the good.

Once Teen Maze was approved as a program that was making a difference for
the greater good many other school systems began adopting the concept and
implementing it in to their areas. Two years ago the North Georgia area contacted
Wal-Mart and they agreed to sponsor all of the equipment needed to be able to
present Teen Maze to our area.

Program director, Tracy Summers, was very excited about being able to have the
opportunity to reach 288 9th graders from Fannin High.

“I want these students to have this information available to them when they are
confronted with these decisions that could be life altering. I don’t ever want a
student in Fannin County to be able to say, ‘no one ever told me that these things
could happen to me,” said Summers.
