Proverbs 15:1-4 “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” Our Father in Heaven, we praise you for the still, quiet, voice of your Holy Spirit. You speak to us with gentleness and grace. But in our world the voices are loud and sometimes angry. Words are used to tear down and destroy.
Give us the ability to be graceful in our speech so that we will not cause someone’s future to turn on a single word. Even when the situation calls for anger on our part, give us wisdom to say the right thing at the right time. We do not want to break the spirit of another person by the way we respond to them.
You see the evil and the good. We pray that the good will outweigh the evil so that believers will be built up in the faith and unbelievers will be drawn to Christ, in whose name we bow.
Amen
