Fannin High Gets Face Lift Over Summer

Students will be walking into a completely different looking school when Fannin County High School opens its doors next month. Workers are trying hard to finish up some major projects before the opening day.
The new CTAE Classroom Wing is nearly finished with most of the utilities at 90% or more complete. The new wing is equipped with all new high speed data cabling and new computer stations.

The Media Center is under an expansion as well. State law provides that the Media Center size be based on a percentage of the total school square footage. Fannin County School Superintendent, Mark Henson, let FYN know that the past few times that the school has expanded its system, it received a waiver from the state from the percentage requirement.

That won’t be necessary now that the school system is embarking on an expansion effort offers much more space and even gives the teachers a new conference room- a convenience that had not been available to them until now.

At the July School Board Meeting Workshop, Henson reminded all in attendance that these improvements had been a long time in coming.

The series of projects started with a new field house. The old field house was converted to class rooms, allowing the school to avoid using modular buildings ‘referred to as ‘mobiles’) The relocation of the ‘mobiles’, allowed the new CTAE wing an area to be built. The old CTAE classrooms will now be remodeled to be a top-of-the-line Guidance Council Center.

Clearing up the old council office will allow for a impressively-sized clinic to be put in its place.

“We are grateful for the SPLOST allowing us to make these necessary changes. The High School was an old tired building, but we are now getting it to the place it needs to be.”

said Henson.
