Mr. James Monroe Davenport, age 88, passed away July 1, 2014 in the Life Care Center of Copper Basin.Born in Ellijay, GA, he was the son of the late Charles Homer and Ollie Patterson Davenport. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Davenport had worked for thirty four years as a Pipefitter for the Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a long time member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon since 1972 and had also served as Choir Director. His wife, Mrs. Imogene Stepp Davenport also precedes him in death.
Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry M. and Faye Davenport of Cumming, GA and Jeffrey M. and Laura Davenport of Blue Ridge, GA; sisters, Marie Kenemer of Dalton, GA and Faye White of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Amy Davenport Bennett, Jeremy Davenport, Jamie Davenport and Jared Davenport; great grand child, Abby Bennett.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. from the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Cantrell and Rev. James Worley officiating. Music will be provided by Rodney and Joyce Panter and the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jeremy Davenport, Jamie Davenport, Jared Davenport, Wade Bennett, Randall Watkins and Jimmy Davenport. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Charles Key, Larry Davenport, Randy Halleck, Al Jones, Ryan Loudermilk, Ron Loudermilk, Lee Stepp, Charles Stepp, Lake Stepp, Billy Harrison and David Harrison.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-9 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
