Press Release from the Office of Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda S. Weaver:Pursuant to O.C.G.A. Section 15-10-20(e), Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda S. Weaver, Superior Court Judge Roger Bradley, and Superior Court Judge Amanda Mercier, announce the appointment of Sherri L. Walker as Chief Magistrate Judge of Fannin County, effective July 17, 2014.
Ms. Walker is a lifelong native of the community and a 1984 graduate of Copper Basin High School. In 2005, she was hired by the late Chief Magistrate Judge Ronald Newton to serve as a Deputy Clerk, and she will continue to serve in this position until she is sworn in as Chief Magistrate Judge.
Twelve candidates applied for the judicial appointment, and all were interviewed. After conducting the interviews, the Superior Court Judges all agreed that Ms. Walker was knowledgeable about office procedures, and the rules applicable to the Magistrate Court, and would continue to operate the office in the same efficient manner as Judge Newton.
Ms. Walker will be sworn in on July 17, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., Fannin County Courthouse, Courtroom B. The public is invited to attend.
The election for Chief Magistrate Judge will occur in 2016.
Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with Judge Newton’s family.
