The BOA Clean House on Day One

A mere 24 hours after the new Board of Assessors take over, the board is changing the look of the office.
To open the special called meeting, new board member Lane Bishop stood up and announced that the new board was going to start each and every meeting with an invocation and a pledge.

After the pledge, each of the new board members told the listening audience their name and history in the appraisal/real estate field. The first order of business for the board was to elect a Chairman and Secretary.

Lane Bishop was nominated and given the position of Chairman with Sonia Smith becoming the secretary for the board. The board would then add another position to the office appointing John Foster as Office Supervisor. Chairman Bishop let FYN know that this would be a paid position and only a temporary job.

Chairman Bishop then proceeded to make a recommendation to dismiss the current legal counsel of Jarrard & Davis which passed with a unanimous vote.

The final item of the new business was approval of a resolution to place the Tax Assessor’s employees under the County Personnel Policy. The newly appointed board accepted the resolution.

The new BOA then went into a two hour long executive session. Upon exiting the session, Chairman Bishop stated that Lori Galloway, the current Chief Appraiser and Steve Stanley, Current Residential/Field Appraiser had been relieved of their duties.

Nathan Henson then made the motion of placing Dawn Cochran, a current Residential /Field Appraiser, to become the new Chief Appraiser with a six month probationary period. This motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Bishop stated,

“The primary goal that we have as a new board is to get the Fannin County digest up to where it should be. We are going to do it.”

During the meeting closing, the BOA announced they would be having weekly meetings starting out and they would be happening on Fridays at 4 p.m. in the Assessors Conference Room.
