The Pickens Sheriff Office has received a report of a lottery winning scam.People are receiving notifications that they have won $250,000.00 and that they need to contact the American Gaming Association. Once they make contact with someone at this number they will tell you that you have to pay off all your credit cards before they can issue your $250,000.00 check. They then will tell you that there are setting you up an account so you can put money into so they can pay off all your credit cards. This is a scam. Please don’t fall for it these types of scams. Scams of this nature often are based outside the United States. They are very hard to investigate. The victim almost always loses their money without any hope of restitution. Anyone requiring you to send money upfront in order to receive an award is almost always attempting to scam you.
In this case, the complainant did the right thing. She refused to send the money and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
