Kenneth Young Ross : Obituary

Kenneth Young Ross, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 05, 2014.A native of Fannin County, Georgia, he was born April 9, 1928 to John Burton and Frankie Ada Wilson Ross. He was a faithful member of Epworth First Baptist Church since 1954 where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, He was a longtime employee as a Carpenter at Tennessee Copper Company and was a Building Contractor. He loved the Lord, his family, his church, gardening, bird watching, and building. Mr. Ross was a member of the McCay Lodge #423 F&AM He was an avid fisherman, a Georgia Bulldog fan and loved his Atlanta Braves. Above all, he was a loving husband, father and adoring Papaw.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Festus, Earl, and Harold Ross and sisters, Jean McClure, Ruth Picklesimer, Mae Fair, and Grace Turner.

He is survived by his dearly loved wife, Maxine Taylor Ross of Epworth, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Rita Ross of Cleveland, TN and Gary and Susan Ross of Douglasville, Georgia; three grandchildren and spouses, Shelly and Ken Pope of Woodstock, Georgia, Luke and Marcy Ross of Dallas, Georgia and Brett Ross of Cleveland, Tennessee; four great grandchildren, Landon and Alyssa Pope and Cayley and Lauren Ross. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters- in- law, Robert and Martha Ross of Stockbridge, GA and Marion and Betty Ross of Dacula, GA, sisters-in-laws Jonnie Ross of Epworth, GA, Lucille Ross of Pelham, AL and brother-in-law Lanier McClure of Marietta, GA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Visitation will be Friday evening at Akins Funeral Home, Copperhill, TN from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday,March 8th at Epworth First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Mr. Ross will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Music will be by Rev. Doug Simonds. Interment will follow in the Epworth cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Luke Ross, Brett Ross, Ken Pope and nephews Blaine Picklesimer, Bob Ross, Stanley Turner and Greg Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Turpin, Max Pittman, Epworth First Baptist Church Deacons and his (Mens IV) Sunday School Class.
