Snider Officially Challenges Ralston for 7th District

The time has come for aspiring political candidates to prove their intentions are more than just talk by officially throwing their hats in the ring.

FYN was on hand to witness Sam Snider of Gilmer County as he qualified for Georgia’s House of Representatives 7th District. Snider will be in the primary on May 20th as a Republican Candidate.

This Seat is currently held by Speaker David Ralston of Fannin County. There has been speculation that Snider may not actually go through with qualifying but today he made it official. Snider is a teacher at Gilmer County High School for 23 years and is currently Head Coach of the Gilmer Bobcats’ wrestling team.

FetchYourNews spoke with Snider after he was “official” to ask how he felt to which he replied, “

It feels great! It simply solidifies what we were already doing in October…as we are serious about winning this race and I’m excited about being a qualified candidate.”

FYN also inquired on how he plans to handle fundraising since this has been a topic of speculation and Snider told us,

“Well we’re getting a lot of those $99 checks where people are concerned about having it be known by others that they have contributed to my campaign but we have a lot of bold men who are not afraid of anyone and they’re giving more money than that and I think this will help to solidify this is a very serious campaign and as they continue to see the efforts we are doing they will want to contribute to this.”

Snider told FYN that he has hundreds of signs out but one problem he’s facing has been people stealing his signs. He went on to say that,

“A DOT guy came up just Saturday and told us he was supposed to move certain signs too close to the road and we asked why other signs were not being taken up and he didn’t have a real good answer for that.”

Snider has invited Ralston to a debate which FYN has offered to moderate. Snider said he has heard back via Ralston’s campaign chairman of Gilmer County, letting him know the Speaker is quite busy and didn’t really have time at this point for a debate. Snider says he will continue to go door to door and plans to speak at an upcoming GOP meeting in Fannin, a Tea Party meeting in Dawsonville, and in April he will be at the Bobcat Den with all the other candidates and in the end of April at the HOA in Big Canoe.

When FYN asked Sam Snider to summarize his reason for running he told us,

“That’s easy, to represent a local district as a citizen and a person that lives in that district to represent Fannin, Gilmer, and Dawson County.”

FYN remains hopeful a debate will be set up soon that will serve to provide the best possible information to viewers (voters) concerning election issues and the candidate’s platforms.
