The Boil Water Order for McCaysville Water customers has been lifted. The water is safe to drink.
Authorities have tested and determined that the McCaysville Water is safe to drink and the Boil Water Order has been lifted. Georgia Environmental Protection Department has lifted the ban. No issues were found with the water.

FYN has been following the current conserve water and have received a few updates that you need to be aware of.

FYN has learned that Fannin County WILL have school on Monday January 12. FYN spoke with Superintendent of Schools Mark Henson. Henson stated that the school system has a plan in place that will allow them to have school. Henson said,

“We have a waterless breakfast and lunch put in place for tomorrow. The City of McCaysville has informed me that there will be enough water to use the restrooms at West Fannin.”

The school will take the dishes off site to another school to wash them.

The hospital is doing its part to save water as well. Fannin Regional has a water truck on site incase there is a complete outage of water.

For people in the Mobile and Epworth areas that are out of water, the city is giving away water at the city park. A water tanker will be at the McCaysville City Park today until 6 and tomorrow from 8-6. All you have to do is bring your own containers.

The City of McCaysville is still on a Conserve/Boil Water notice. Customers are urged to call the City Hall if low pressure or a water main leak is detected. The number is 706-492-4921.

As of 8pm last, Blue Ridge’s water tank was at 32 of 50 feet. The tank was holding water but not gaining.

The Mineral Bluff water tank is shut off at 11 feet.

FYN received the notice asking all Blue Ridge water customers to conserve as much water as possible. This is so the city can supply the hospital and hopefully all of McCaysville.

The City of Blue Ridge does have some lines shut down. These lines have shown through master meters to have water leaks. As of 8:40pm the Blue Ridge tank began to gain some water.

The water shortage caused Fannin County Schools to be shut down for the school day of Friday January 10th.

FYN spoke with Superintendent Mark Henson about the situation. Henson advice the Mayor of Blue Ridge spoke with him throughout the night and was told that if schools were held the schools would drain the water supply.

As water levels continue to rise in the Blue Ridge tank, the City of Blue Ridge started turning on Master Meters it had shut off last night early this the morning.

City Council member Rodney Kendall who is over the Blue Ridge City Water informed FYN that there is a leak in the Mountain Tops area but Blue Ridge tank is still steadily filling up.

FYN is trying to get in contact with McCaysville to see the status of the water there. The area is still asked to conserve as much water as possible.

FYN has spoken to the McCaysville City Hall. The city let FYN know that the water is at a certain level that the EPD requires them to put a boil water notice out. This is a precautionary measure. FYN was told that if the water got to a contaminated level they would cut the supply off.

The City said the main concern was keeping water to the hospital.

Blue Ridge continues to pump water to McCaysville but it is not enough. The hospital was notified last night of the problem and plans are already in place if the hospital needs to bring in water. McCaysville stated that it will cut off water in some areas to keep water to the hospital.
