Jack Coleman Ganues : Obituary

Mr. Jack Coleman Ganues, age 92 of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Copperhill, TN.He was born on Thursday, April 7, 1921 in Talking Rock, GA to the late Les and Minnie Mann Ganues. Mr. Ganues was a 1941 graduate of Pickens High School. He attended his 72nd reunion this past May. Jack was a star basketball player and was offered a scholarship to North Georgia College and Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. During this time he had moved to the Copper Basin. There, he met his wife of 53 years, Geneva “Tobbie” Chancey Ganues. Jack served in the United States Army in WWII in Persia. He moved supplies by rail to the Russian border. He had worked as a trackman for L&N Railroad. He started work at the Tennessee Copper Company on January 7, 1946. After six months, he moved to the Railroad Department as a brakeman. He and “Tobbie” enjoyed retirement until she passed away in 1995. He was a member and deacon of Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Ganues was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene and brothers, Frank, J.T, John, L.C., Bernard and Raymond Ganues.

Survivors include, brother, Fred Ganues of Morganton, GA; sister, Billie Davis of Chattanooga, TN; sisters-in-law, Pearl C. Keener, Rachel C. German and Mary Chancey; brother-in-law, Roy Chancey; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with the Dr. Rev. Roger Beck and Rev. James Howard Galloway officiating. Music will be by Keith Barnes and Delores C. Gibbs. Interment will follow in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Freddy Ganues, Mike Ganues, Jackie Townsend, Kenneth Ganues, Keith Chancey and Wayne Brooks. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 6, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Temple Baptist Church.
