Lora Richards Lance : Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Lora Richards Lance, 100 years of age, of Morganton, Georgia, who passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in Heritage Healthcare of Blue Ridge, Georgia.Mrs. Lance was born in Fannin County, Georgia, a daughter of the late John Richards, and the late Effie Turner Richards. She was a homemaker and had lived in this area for most of her life. Mrs. Lance was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, but later on in her life attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Zion Hill Baptist Church. Among the many things that she enjoyed was working in her flower garden, and she especially loved to quilt. Mrs. Lance loved her family very much and loved to cook for them, especially homemade jellies. Stanley Lance, her husband, passed away in 1965; a son, Richmond Lance, and a daughter, Juanseal Lance Dowell, also preceded her in death.

Surviving family members left to treasure Mrs. Lance’s memory are daughters, Frances Butler, of Clarkesville, Georgia; Carneal Burnette, of Buford, Georgia, and Mildred Baucom, of Morganton, Georgia; Eleven grandchildren, Sixteen great grandchildren, and Six great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lance have been scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers for the service: Mitchell Lance, Josh Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Jake Butler, Alex Dowell, and Tim Dowell. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Greg Burnette, John Butler, Steve Butler, Mike Butler, Tony Prickett, Terry Dowell, and Lowell Botts. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday before the funeral begins, starting at 11 a.m.
