Fannin Fights Hard at “Friday Night Fights” in Union

The Fannin County High School Rebels rode to Union County to take part in the “Friday Night Fights” Dual tournament. The Rebels rose over Hayesville, 36-27, but fell to the hosting Union Panthers, 60-24, White County, 48-21, Gilmer High School, 77-3, and Rabun, 48-36.The Rebels stung the Yellow Jackets of Hayesville, despite starting out down 12-0 after forfeiting the first two matches. The Rebels competed in the tournament forfeiting several matches in each dual, due to several wrestlers being out due to stomach flu and injuries.

Blake Carroll’s pin at 220 started a six match win streak for the Rebels that saw Stuart Bradyen, Ben Bruce and Matthew Seabolt all score pins in the 36-27 defeat of the Yellow Jackets.

The Rebels next faced the White County Warriors. Bruce, Seabolt, and Caleb Chancey all scored wins, with Bruce and Seabolt both scoring pins.

Fannin faced the hosting Panthers next falling 60-24. Uriah Giet, Chancey, Bruce, and McClure all posted wins. The Rebels was then routed by Gilmer 77-3 before facing off with Rabun County to end the night.

The Rebels began the match down 12-0 after a forfeit and pin at 285 and 106; however, Brayden cut the lead to six at 113. Chancey, Bruce and Seabolt scored three pins in succession to put Fannin up 24-12.

Rabun roared back with five straight pins to take a 42-24 lead. The Rebels could not comeback despite a pins by Carroll and Adrian Mendosa in two of the final two matches. Fannin fell 48-36 to Rabun.
