James William Hamby : Obituary

James William Hamby, age 90 of Turtletown, TN passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Copper Basin Medical Center in Copperhill, TN.He was born Saturday, January 6, 1923 in Polk County, TN to the late Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Brannon Hamby. Mr. Hamby retired from Tennessee Chemical Company as a lab technician. He served in the United States Army during World War II , where he was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Hamby was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman. Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bethany Pate.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Frances Edwards Hamby of Turtletown, TN: two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Dr. Richard Pate of Cleveland, TN and Virginia and Mike Whitlow of Turtletown, TN; five grand children, Brad Pate, Tony Whitlow, James Whitlow, Tracy Griffith and Emily Pate: three great-grandchildren, Jacob Whitlow, Ben Griffith and Hailey Griffith; sister, Frances Presswood of Cleveland, TN.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with the Rev. G.W. Mathis and Pastor Terry Gladson officiating. Interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be James Whitlow, Brad Pate, Eric Griffith, Dr. Richard Pate and Mike Dale.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill is in charge of the arrangements.
