Paul Greene : Obituary

Mr. Paul Greene, Sr., age 87 of Blue Ridge, passed away December 3, 2013 at the Heritage Healthcare Nursing Home. Paul was born April 28, 1926 in McCaysville, GA to the late G.W. Greene and Sizada Josephine Todd Greene. He was the youngest of four children and the only son. During his last year of high school, he was called to serve his country during WWII in the United States Army where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the Rhine. Paul was one out of eight soldiers in his company to survive out of 700 plus troops. After coming home he worked as a steel rigger and crane operator for city service for many years. He was a member and trustee for the United Methodist Church of Epworth for 33 years and also a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville for the last 33 years of his life. He loved music and sang in the church choir and quartet. In his spare time, Paul loved to hunt and fish. He Also enjoyed boating and skiing on the lake.

Survivors include loving wife of 66 years, Corienne Payne Greene, son, Paul (Sherry) Greene Jr., daughter, Kathy Karen (Steven) Barnes, granddaughter, Bonnie Ashley Davis, granddaughter, Kaycie Denise Callihan, grandson, Lukus Sanford Barnes, grandson, Zachery Paul Barnes, and great-grandson, Jackson Sanford Barnes.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church McCaysville with the Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music provided by the church choir. Interment will follow in the Epworth Methodist Cemetery. The gentlemen serving as Pallbearers will be Robert Arp, Nick Wimberley, David Brooks, Jerry Pack, Tom Foster and Don Loudermilk. Honorary Pallbearers are his Sunday School Class members and fellow Deacons.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. If you wish to send a memorial donation instead of flowers, you may send donations to the First Baptist Church of McCaysville Organ Fund, P.O. Box 867, McCaysville, GA 30555.
