The annual basketball Tip-Off Tournament is underway and at Fannin County High School. On the first day of play the host teams faced the Cougars of Copper Basin. The Ladies walked away with the game putting up a 50-9 final for the girls’ first win on the year. After a hard fought game the boys fell by 9 on a 57-48 final. The girls’ game got off for a fast start for the Lady Rebels. After winning the tip it was smooth sailing from there. McKenzie Ryder put up 7 points in the first quarter to help the Rebels get off to a 22-0 first quarter run.

“Basin” got on the board during the second quarter but the girls of Fannin were just too much. Fannin’s half time lead stood at 28-6.

After a 6-0 run in the third and a 16-3 run in the fourth the Lady Rebels walked away with an easy 50-9 win. This puts Fannin’s record at 1-1 after a close loss to Hiawassee Dam earlier in the week.

Stefanie Tatum came off the bench and led the team with 10 points. Tatum ignited the crowd with two statement blocks in the win over Basin.

The Fannin girls face some big challenges as they face Gilmer tonight and Pickens on Tuesday night.

The guy’s game was close from the tip. Only nine points separated the teams at any given time.

Christian Stepp keep the Rebels close draining two big buckets from beyond the arch. After a big steal from Stepp, Austin Williams got a lay up to put Fannin up 11-6.

“Basin” had a late first quarter surge to put the Cougars up 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.

“Basin” came out strong in the second quarter scoring a buzzer beater just before the half ended. The Cougars ran in the locker room with a four point, 29-25, lead.

Fannin made a strong run at the Cougars in the fourth quarter.

After Nolan Hicks scored two free throws, the Rebels trailed by two points with four minutes left in the game.

“Basin” scored on a three point play. After failing to convert on a bucket, Fannin had to start fouling with two minutes left.

The Rebels was not able to pull any closer, the result being a game final of 57-48 in “Basin’s” favor. Williams led the way for the Rebels with 13 points going 9-14 from the foul line.

The guys face some big challenges as Fannin faces Gilmer tonight and Pickens on Tuesday night both games are home at 6:00.
