The Fannin County High School Rebels football team made the long trip to Banks County Friday night to try and spoil the Leopards’ Homecoming. The Rebels scored in the last few ticks of the fourth to give Fannin a 6-0 victory, for the second win of the season.After turning the ball over, via fumble, on the opening kickoff, Fannin found itself on defense with the Ball on the Fannin 20 yard line. Despite a penalty on the Rebels and a long pass play that put Banks on the Rebels’ three yard line, the Rebels’ defense gave up no points. Fannin forced a missed field goal, due to heavy pressure up the middle of the defense.

The missed kick led to a momentum in Fannin’s favor; however, the swing was momentary, as both teams traded three and out possessions.

The punt by Banks rolled into the end zone. Peyton Satterfield would help change the field position for the Rebels by taking off on a 46 yard sprint, getting the Rebels to the Leopard 27 yard line.

Four plays later the boys in blue lined up for a fourth and three. Fannin gave it to the workhorse, Satterfield, who secured the yardage for another Fannin first down.

The Rebels would face another fourth down a mere four downs later. This time Trevor Stone looked to Jerod Petty but the pass fell short of a Fannin first down.

The two teams each went three and out twice before Banks started driving late in the second quarter.

Petty stopped the Leopard with 30 seconds left in the half by picking the ball off. Petty would get the ball up to the 50 with 20 seconds left in the half. After a failed hail mary the teams went into the half scoreless.

The Leopards came out of the half fired up looking for a score. Banks would drive all the way down to the Rebel 16. Noah O’Neal came up with a huge stop blocking a pass on fourth down.

Both teams battled throughout the third quarter and would keep the game scoreless through three.

Fannin would start the fourth with an inception on the Leopard 5 yard line and the defensive battle continued throughout the fourth.

Each team kept going back and fourth, swapping field position. With four minutes left in the game the Rebels punted to Leopards. Banks lined up around the 50 to start the drive.

Banks would run two minutes off the clock before the Rebels forced a fourth down. With 1:46 left the Leopards lined up for a punt. The snap went over the punters head.

The Banks’ punter picked up the ball and rugby kicked it the ball landed on the Rebel 33 were the Rebels took over with a 1:29 left.

With 42 seconds on the clock the Stone hooked up with O’Neal for a 50 yard pass to get the Rebels to the 20 yard line.

After two costly penalties the Rebels lined up for a 3rd and 21 with 33 seconds left. Satterfield would break loose and run to the 10 yard line with 21 seconds remaining.

The next play was a nine and a half yard pass to O’Neal falling out of bounds on the half yard line to stop the clock at 17 seconds.

This set up a Trevor Stone half yard TD run with 12 seconds remaining in the game.

After a missed PAT the Rebels took Fannin’s second victory 6-0.

Just moments after the game Chambers told FYN,

“I’m really proud of the way our guys fought. This is huge success by the defense for a shutout.”

Fannin has a big test this Friday at Buford comes to town for Senior Night in Dixie.
