Running Lady Rebels Win Over Warriors for Fannin’s Fourth Straight Win

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team has won four straight games: (7-2) over Union County; (13-1) over West Hall; (8-1) over East Hall; and (15-11) over White County.After two straight blow out Lady Rebel’s road victories that saw Fannin sweep the Hall County schools, while only giving up two total runs, Fannin faced the Lady Warriors of White County.

The Lady Warriors took the first lead of the game with an RBI single in the top of the second inning; however the was the last time Fannin faced a deficit in the game as the Lady Rebels rose to the occasion, exploding for five runs in the bottom of the same inning.

Allie Barfield scored the first Fannin run, when she took advantage of an error at first that also allowed Jace Armstrong to reach first. Kaitlyn Dickey also scored the second Lady Rebels’ run on an error that allowed Ashley Rhodes to reach second and put Armstrong on third.

Back to back two run doubles from Amy Mintz and Katie Brown respectively saw the lead increase to 6-1 as the inning came to a close.

White County refused to wave the white flag, scoring two runs in the top of the third, to cut the lead in half, 6-3; however, the Lady Rebel’s offense again answered in the bottom of the inning.

Jordan Deal led off with a single, followed by a bunt from Barfield that saw her reach third and Deal score, due to defensive error, to make the score 7-3.

An RBI standing double, from Dickey followed by an RBI sac bunt from Armstrong put the Lady Rebels up 9-3 going into the top of the fourth.

The Lady Warriors cut the lead to 9-6 with three runs scored in the top of the fourth, and again saw the home team Lady Rebels respond in the inning’s second half.

An RBI standing double from Jordan Deal that scored Katie Brown, followed by an RBI single from Allie Barfield that scored Brown, found Fannin with an 11-6 lead headed into the fifth inning.

The top of the fifth saw White County respond with two runs scored, cutting the lead to 11-8 going into the bottom of the fifth.

After one out singles from Josie Milsaps, and Rhodes, the latter a bunt, Amy Mintz’s two run double put the home team up 13-8. Mintz stole third, but was eventually thrown out at home on a double play ball to close the inning out.

After a White County RBI triple cut the lead to 13-9 in the top of the sixth, Fannin head man, David Dyer, brought in Dickey to relieve starting pitcher, Armstrong. The Lady Warriors scored one more run, cutting the lead to 13-10, before Fannin’s offense took up the bats.

Following a Fannin fly out, Jordan Deal was hit by a pitch. Barfield’s standing double put runners on second and third, and Dickey’s two run single put the home team up 15-10 going into the final inning.

Despite allowing another run to score, the Lady Rebels closed out the Lady Warriors without having to bat again, winning 15-11 for the fourth Fannin win in a row. The win puts the Lady Rebels above .500 with a record of 8-7 on the year. The JV Lady Rebels remain undefeated, after a 12-1 win over White County, with a record of 6-0.

The varsity team will next face Banks County at home on Thursday September 12th. The JV team will next host Buford on Monday September 30th.
