Mrs. Leona H. Owensby, age 97 of Murphy, passed away Monday evening, August 12, 2013 at Murphy Medical Center.Mrs. Owensby was born December 18, 1915 in Cherokee County, NC to the late William Raleigh Hughes and the late Cora Jones Hughes. She was a lifelong resident of Western North Carolina and was a member of Swanson Baptist Church. Mrs. Owensby was preceded in death by her husband, David Owensby, and son, Arnold Owensby.

Survivors include: son, Don Owensby of Murphy and sister, Onibe Swanson of Ducktown, TN.

Funeral services: Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy. Interment will follow in the Swanson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy of Murphy, Wednesday, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
