Lois Barr : Obituary

Mrs. Lois Mongold Barr, age 107, of Blairsville passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The daughter of William Bry Mongold and Mary Bynum Mongold was born at Mountain Rest, SC on June 29, 1906. She was educated in Georgia Public Schools and graduated from Piedmont College in the Class of 1926. After teaching for several years, she was married to the Rev. Horace K Barr, an ordained minister of the North Alabama Conference, United Methodist Church, who died in 1943 in Montevalo, AL.

For a number of years she lived in the Atlanta Metro Area where she worked as a secretary for the Frigidaire Sales Corporation, Division of General Motors Corporation. She was an active member of North Decatur United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary for a number of years. In 1986 she moved to Blairsville where she lived in Wesley Mountain Retirement Village.

She was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, United Methodist Women, Fidelis Sunday School Class, Church Women United, and Union County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6th at the First United Methodist Church of Union County.
