Fannin CRCT Scores Exceed State

Released today, the recent CRCT scores report Fannin County scoring higher than this year’s state scores. In a conversation with FYN today, Fannin’s Curriculum Director Karen Walton said this year’s scores are more reason to celebrate than usual because the state’s scores are higher than they were last year. Walton also says the scores reflect the tests taken this spring. She went on to say that the scores do not include summer scores. As such, she noted that the GDOE is expected to re-issue a new set of scores that reflect the summer tests sometime in August.

According to the Georgia Department of Education website, all Georgia students grades one through eight are required by state law to take Criterion-Reference Competency Tests (CRCT). All students are tested in the content areas of reading, English/language Arts and mathematics, while students in grades three through eight are additionally tested in the areas of science and social studies.

Walton said that students state-wide out-performed last year’s scores in 24 of 30 areas. Also, writing in the AJC today, Wayne Washington noted that most students met or exceeded the standards that the test measure.

“These scores show the excellent job the schools and teachers are doing,”

she said.
