Fannin Recreation Department Holds Fishing Rodeo

The Fannin County Recreation Department hosted its first fishing rodeo on Saturday, June 15th. The Fishing rodeo was held at the Fannin County Park from 9am to 12 noon for kids under 16 and then after noon it was open to the public.

Kids from ages 2 to 14 participated and caught fish such as Catfish, Blue Gill and Bass. With over 76 poles counted at one time in the water, moms, dads and children were enjoying a great family atmosphere for all.

“With this being our first rodeo, I didn’t know really what to expect”

“I didn’t know if we would all be lined up on the shoreline side by side trying to find that honey spot. With the size of the pond, we weren’t over crowded but yet had a great time for all. Everyone walked away saying thank you along with other positive comments.”

We geared our fishing rodeo more along the line of an educational and informative rodeo. Along with that being said, we had a few agencies that came and set up educational booths for the public. Booths that were in attendance included the Master Gardeners and the County Extension Office, the Chattahoochee National Forest National Fish Hatchery, the Forestry Service, the Dept. of Natural Resources, Trout Unlimited and the Blue Ridge Outfitters. We would like to say thank you to each of these organizations for coming out and making this a successful rodeo.
