Most folks in North Georgia know of the Mercier family and their support for our community. Once again the Mercier family has shown that support with the Breathe Deep Blue Ridge 5K Race. What makes this 5K different? This time it is personal as Missy Mercier Lillard explains along with others and Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston shares his support for Missy in the video below.
Runners enjoyed a brisk run or a fun walk through the apple blossoms at Mercier Orchards to be a part of the cause. All the proceeds will go to the LUNGevity Foundation to fund research, early detenction and lung cancer awareness.
The largest private funder of lung cancer research, LUNGevity supports the largest national lung cancer grassroots events program and has granted over $2 million in 2011 alone to lung cancer researchers focused in 2 areas early detection ad targeted therapies.
Mercier Orchard set up with refreshments and pre-race goodies included fried pies from Merciers Orchard. Several runners let their dogs run with them! It was great fun and a wonderful cause raising funds for lung cancer research foundation.
