Mrs. Myrtle Katherine Davenport, age 88 of Morganton, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Blue Ridge. Mrs. Davenport was born March 25, 1925 in Mineral Bluff, GA to the late Augustus “Gus” and Thedocia “Docia” Turner Hunt. A member of Morganton Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by husband, Frank Davenport, brothers, Clyde Hunt, and Joel Hunt, and sisters, Ruby Williams, and Delores Heaton. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Braves and Hawks.
Survivors include: daughter, Joan (Larry) Davenport of Morganton, son, David (Tiffany) Davenport of Woodstock, brother, Robert Hunt, three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Drew, and Brianne Davenport. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Pittman and Rev. Denny Hawkins officiating. Music provided by Marilyn Thomas. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers include Dennis Turner, Tommy Jones, Bruce Davenport, Billy Hunt, Sammy Williams, and George Bridwell. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Doolittle, Jim Wood, Arlus Craig, Lanier Hunt, Edwin Long and Phillip Heaton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9 pm.
