DAR Donates to FCHS Band

Daughters of the American Revolution donation helps make “Trip of a Lifetime” more affordable for Fannin County Band Members.

Press Release from the FCHS Band: Blue Ridge, GA – On March 11, 2013 The Fannin County Band was honored by special guest Margaret Stanton Wischmeyer at their last Band Booster meeting with a presentation of a donation of $2000.

This donation will assist the Fannin County Band Boosters in making the upcoming band trip to New York City and Washington, DC more affordable to all students attending. We are proud to have been worthy of their donation and humbled by their generosity and consideration.

The highlights of the upcoming trip include attending the musical Phantom of the Opera, touring Carnegie Hall, Times Square, The Empire State Building, The 9/11 Memorial, and the Statue of Liberty. The band will perform aboard the USS Intrepid, home of Space Shuttle Enterprise. In Washington the band will have a guided tour of the interior of the US Capitol Building, visit numerous Smithsonian Museums, the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Iwo Jima Statue, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, Franklin Roosevelt Memorial, and the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. The Band will also tour Arlington National Cemetery concluding with members of the band participating in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Ms. Margaret Stanton Wischmeyer, Regent, represents the Old Unicoi Trail Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution representing Fannin, Union and Towns County, Georgia.
