Fannin BOC Approves Patrol Car Financing

Fannin County Board of Commissioners held a productive meeting on January 22nd. The meeting was called to order and the minutes were approved. Then, the Board of Commissioners moved on to new business. Chairman Simonds requested the Board’s approval to open bids on the Department of Transportation striping project and award the job to the winning bidder. This request was approved unanimously.

The next matter of business was also approved with a unanimous vote and it was for the Board of Commissioners to serve as the fiscal agent for Family Connections.

Chairman Simonds requested the Board to approve the motion to purchase two patrol cars for th eFannin County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicles will be financed through BB&T for three years at a percentage rate of 1.55.

The next portion of the meeting included the approval of variances. Johnathan and Rachel Cummings requested a variance to put a garage ten feet over the property line due to the lack of another location to put it. Both property owners consented and the variance was approved. Another varience request was made by Paul Robinson. He needs to build a stack house but the location is only fourty-five feet from the center point of the road instead of the required fifty-five feet. This variance was approved by all board members.

Jan Eaton with Fannin Animal Rescue addressed the Board regarding the poor treatment of animals housed at Fannin County Animal Control.

“I picked up a dog a couple weeks ago that was in the advanced stages of Parvo and another one today”

Eaton said

“Both animals are at the vet and being properly cared for”.

Eaton’s point was that she feels as if the employees are negligent of the animals and would like for the Board of Commissioners to investigate the treatment of the animals.

The meeting came to a close with the Commissioner’s comments.

“I would just like to see everyone get along and for Mrs. Eaton and the folks at Animal Control to work together for the sake of the animals”

said Earl Johnson.

The next scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting is February 12, 2013.
