Wisdom: A Key to a Long, Happy Life

The Bible, especially Proverbs, talks a lot about wisdom — Godly wisdom. Wisdom is a key to many benefits including a longer life and peace. Proverbs 3:1,2 says: “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you“.
It seems that people search everywhere for wisdom. They read books, go to seminars, and talk to friends and family. There is nothing wrong with any of these approaches necessarily but true wisdom resides in the Word of God. Why don’t we look there first?

God’s wisdom applies to all of life and not just our pietistic spiritual side of life. Because so many of us never learned a comprehensive biblical worldview, we view the bible as a soul-food book. And yet, as we read God’s Word, we find that it applies to every area of life including economics, law, business, music, art, family, government, ethics, hygiene, education, finance, and every other area we can think of. God cares about our lives.

Strictly speaking — everything in life is spiritual. There is no neutrality. There is no place where we can escape the demands of God or His laws and principles. If we truly want to find peace and a long happy life, we must seek His Wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6-8: “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His godly ones.”

To reject His wisdom brings death. Proverbs 8:36 says: “But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death“.

We can see the results of rejecting God’s wisdom as a nation. We have become a culture of death. Physical death has come through abortions, suicides, drive-by shootings, and drug overdoses. The death of relationships comes through sexual excesses, adultery, and the divorce epidemic. I pray that we, as a nation, and as individuals repent of our love of death and seek His Wisdom.
